If you’re a fan of the original 1987 movie, then this is the predator you know and love. Reptilian, hideous, slightly slimy with high tech gladiator armor, he’s the beastie that terrorized Arnold Schwarzenegger through the greater part of the South American jungle and flayed his special ops team.
This figure stands approximately seven inches tall but is not necessarily free-standing, as he’s top heavy. (I display mine using a stand with a control arm to keep him from face-planting into the shelf.) The paint job is quite outstanding, especially in the torso area where the creature’s slick skin must be contrasted with its battered metal armor and mesh “body suit.” The mesh webbing is raised — not just painted on — which gives it even more authenticity. This, along with the intricately details “dreadlocks,” are two of my favorite things about this figure.
Produced by NECA, a toy maker with a good reputation for producing high quality products at a reasonable price, this collectable is nicely articulated and includes interchangeable heads (with and without helmet) and hands. If you want to display him with props, several ghoulish ones are provided including a lone human skull and a human skull with the spine still attached. Additional accessories include a blue cannon blast effect, a removable backpack, bone trophy necklaces, and a scanner gauntlet.
This figure was one of several produced in 2017 for the original movie’s 30th anniversary. It is currently out of production but you can find them online. I would suggest shopping around for this toy as prices vary from $25 to $60. I bought mine for $25.00 and I don’t know if it warrants twice that amount unless you are particularly in love with the original movie and its collectables.
