Somewhere, buried deep in their DNA, all nerds are programmed to love a good costume. Whether it’s the frilly Elizabethan collars they trot out for the Renaissance fairs, the Starfleet uniforms they dust off for conventions, or the Spider-Man onesies they squeeze into for TikTok videos, "dressing up" seems to be a universal predisposition. Of course, nowadays there's an actual term for this phenomenon — cosplay — which is short of "costumed play."
Since Halloween was the first and still best-known example of large-scale cosplay, I figured this was an appropriate time to introduce my Lake Stehle (pronounced STEEL). Lake is a talented and dedicated cosplayer who specializes in impersonating Link, the central elfish character in Nintendo's class video game series, THE LEGEND OF ZELDA.
In the video below, Lake discusses why Link resonates with him and how cosplay became more than a hobby, it became a passion. You can follow Lake on YouTube at LakeStehle17 or Instagram @lakeksteel.
