In honor of National Winnie the Pooh Day, I take a look at how author A.A. Milne used a forest in his own backyard to inspire Pooh Bear's magical 100 Acre Wood and how I (and other authors) can follow suit. This video offers advice on how you can find your own extraordinary landscape and use it in your writing projects.

During the early part of the twentieth century, author A.A. Milne and his family lived on the edge of the Ashdown Forest, East Sussex, England.
The forest was not only a get-away spot for Milne, but his major source of inspiration. Watching his son, Christopher Robin, play there with his stuffed animals was how the Winnie the Pooh stories began. Later, Milne introduced his friend, artist E. H. Shepard, to the forest which resulted in the numerous and enchanting illustrations of the fictional 100 Acre Wood. Click here to learn more about this forest.
