HOW BOOKS KEPT STAR TREK ALIVE AFTER CANCELLATION
Starting in 1967 and continuing for the next decade, Bantam Books published twelve novels based on the Star Trek: The Original Series and penned by James Blish. The books, along with the show’s syndicated reruns and a popular Saturday morning animated series, kept Star Trek in the public eye until it finally made its way back to the big screen with 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. From there, it was full speed ahead with over 800 novels, thirteen motion pictures, and thirteen broadcast television shows. Related feature: The Golden Age of Movie Novelizations. |
